which
contemporary world politics
This unit aims to provide students with a critical understanding of contemporary world politics. Drawing on contemporary theories of world politics, it introduces students to debates about the structure of the global system and debates about actors and agency within it, explicitly linking theory to empirical analysis and to practice. Drawing on the key themes of power and representation, the unit examines states, sovereignty, interests and power; international institutions, interdependence and globalisation; international political economy and empire; identity politics; securitisation; war and violent conflict; the war on terror; the end of history; and the clash of civilisations.
OR
culture and society
With a largely conceptual and theoretical focus, the unit uses examples from creative arts and debates in anthropology, cultural studies and sociology to consider how the symbolic realm is connected to the material order of society. It addresses how culture is constituted by changing ideas and practices which are crucial to the (re)production and alteration of social structures and relations. We engage some 'classics' of cultural criticism, and contemporary forms such as musical and body cultures to evaluate the significance and meaning of cultural tastes, values, preferences and affinities.
so, how now?.

actually i was thinking of
comedy
Can we take the comedy of ancient Greece and Rome seriously? Can we trace the roots of Bart Simpson's comedic family tree back to the comedy slaves of Aristophanes and Plautus? In this unit we will examine the full range of comic, satiric, and invective discourse in the cultures of ancient Greece and Rome - from graffiti and oratorical insults, through Old and New Comedy, to the comic novel - to discover how laughter functioned in antiquity both as subversive political critique and conservative social commentary.
bart simpson. woohoo!
also theres an open unit called

freeze! you're under arrest
everyone was called to gather from the 1st-4th floor of lot 10 for instructions and we then headed to pavillion for the big freeze. (someone commented that theyve never seen lot 10 that crowded since 1995, the security guards were walking around, confused in seeing so many people with small slips of orange paper)
kl freeze in unison.
go google it(tho the official video is not out yet), and while you're at it google grand central freeze as well
the idea was basically for a bunch of people to simply freeze what they were doing for a full 4 minutes. of course there were people in pavillion who were oblivious to this event and had the opportunity to just observe this spectacle.
i had a lot of fun. amy and i were frozen while camwhoring. both of us had big smiles on our faces while looking at the camera. i did not know my cheeks could ache from smiling too long and ache it did. around us i could hear some spectators
"what the hell is this?"
"is this some sort of competition?"
"weyhh macam matrix dowhh"
"why have they stopped moving?"
funniest was probably this lady who was trying to manouvre a stroller through the frozen crowd. quite unsuccessfully.
and then there was also this girl in front of me who got bullied by a bunch of guys. she froze in a walking pose and some guys with big cameras came to take pictures with her 'madamme tussaud's' like, only more up close and personal. they then went on to make funny faces and unfortunately she cracked and laughed along.
luckily i already had a huge smile plastered on my face or i wouldve cracked up as well.
i also heard there were a bunch of wackos walking around sticking post-it notes on the frozen ones.
i thought it was a success considering the turn out (over 1000 i think) of course there were minor slip ups but the whole thing was alot of fun and im glad i made time to go.
i mean hey its not an easy feat to get 1000 malaysians to follow instructions you know.

why i dont have to do anything about my dreams
-Dr. Seuss
"Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything."
-Plato
"Don't part with your illusions. When they are gone you may still exist, but you have ceased to live."
-Mark Twain
"Art washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life."
-Pablo Picasso

ooh gardenia, PALING enak dicicah dengan milo panas!
someone asked me what makes me malaysian.
i say, im malaysian because i cant live without milo.
im malaysian because when my friends call to ask me where i am (when theyre waiting for me) i say im parking my car even though im only halfway there
im malaysian because i eat my maggi goreng with a twist of lime
im malaysian because i love durian, in any form
im malaysian because i say -laaa
im malaysian because whenever i speak to someone who talks with a different slang, i am suddenly speaking like him/her. (eg, when i buy tau foo fah from a chinese uncle i say "uncle, lu kasi ini satu, itu dua ahh, ini takmau gula" and when ordering at a mamak "ane! rrrrroti canai satu!!")
im malaysian because at the moment, im all into cupcakes n doughnuts. whats it gonna be next? lollipops?
im malaysian because once upon a time, i used my umbrella not to shield me from the rain, but from the scorching sunshine.
i love it here

drops
dude, its april like
you shibby?
i thought it would be all sunny when i fly back.
tsk tsk
oh mama nature
H-E-L-L-O!. that spells jell-o
last night soraya went to watch the 3rd akademi fantasia concert live at the pj civic hall. haha yes she did
why? coz she was curious. it was classic rock week. and rock as you know it, soraya likes. soraya admits, mama rina rocked like fck.. but soraya thinks its only because she sang enter sandman, which on its own is fkin awesome. nadia did well with total eclipse of the heart and there were some others that were quite commendable.
BUT one performance caught soraya's attention.
TOI. this dude, with little hair, big aviators which soraya has to (quite shamefully) admit resembled hers, a god knows what print shirt, tight jeans, a vest, and boots worn over the jeans. yessaa the whole get up of a rempit. or at least what soraya thinks is ideally described as rempit.
the song of choice (not his i know).. c-i-n-t-a. ok maybe it wasnt so much him. again, it was the song. it left me in stitches man. if ya'll know the song you would know what i mean. basically he's spelling stuff out throught the whole song. c-i-n-t-a k-i-t-a.... m-a-n-a c-i-n-t-a. c-i-n-t-a b-u-t-a.... throughout the whole song dahi ku berkerut, and safia, who was beside me, thinking that i was putting on my confused face kept telling me what he was spelling out.
c-i-n-t-a b-u-t-a ... *cue safia turning sideways* "CINTA BUTA"!.
thanks saf, i dont know how to spell!
and after that, we were off to heritage row for the best maggi goreng ever ever everrr.

these four walls
messed up messed up. i cant fall asleep till after 7. why why why?. theres not much i can keep myself occupied with till 7 am. ive exhausted all resources. i desperately want to fall asleep so that i cant start my day earlier.
ive been staying in all day and studying. im such a good girl.
so i reward myself by relaxing at night.
and my kind of relax does not mean i sit back n watch tv or stare at the ceiling.
no no, i need to get out of the house.
staying indoors the whole day kinda gets to you.
no, looking out the window doesnt count!
why cant i freaking fall asleep!
*steady hands just take the wheel*
